It's the end of the year and I'm finding myself running in circles. I'm still mentally trying to arrange my pumpkin centerpiece, but Halloween and Thanksgiving have surpassed us as quick as my toddler can hide his candy stash. Buried in holiday cards, holiday shopping, and holiday decorating, I am just hanging on to gasp for air waiting for the new year.
I'm not going to pretend I wasn't a little exhausted at the thought of climbing in to the attic to bring down the holiday decorations. ...and of course, let's be honest, I didn't do that, my husband did. I did contain to toddlers from climbing up the ladder. That counts.
Either way, I was exhausted before we even began. So, we opted for the minimal and tasteful, as usual.
My only MUST is a live tree. Always. My husband gripes, but I just have to have the Christmas scent in my home for the holidays and he loves it too, in hindsight! I haven't put ornaments on my tree in a few years. Because, toddlers, but I risked it this year in hopes nothing special ends up in a dust pan. So far, so good.
There's nothing I love more than watching these two little ones surround themselves with the holiday cheer we all feel this time of year. With no concept of time, I am asked the daily question "Has Santa come yet?" Not yet, Finn. Not yet.
I remember in college, about two weeks before exams, my mind shut off. I was mentally done and there was not much you could do to motivate me to do ANYthing more than necessary. Same goes for the holiday season. A new year is upon us and I am DONE with the past year. If I can work from the couch to get those last orders out, that's where I'll be.
I've never made a wreath before, but decided I'd attempt fate and give it a whirl. It's a little ...untamed, but hey, my mom likes it, so that's a win!
When we're not making wreaths, hanging garland, or stringing lights, you can find us in the back yard. Finn's all time favorite activity is "diggin' holes at the dirt pit," and Isla's cool new (gross) thing is to sneak dog food why no one is looking. Don't worry, she only ate one little piece or two and she's totally fine. At least it's all natural ingredients right (second time mom moment)!?
I hope we can all spend these last couple of weeks away from the hustle and bustle and just love on one another. It's been such a wonderful, crazy, exciting, exhausting, and amazingly blessed year. I'm looking for 2016 to be even more wonderful, crazy, exciting, (hopefully more sleep), and amazing!
So if you haven't mentally ended your year yet, I hope you get too soon. Because your pajamas, cup of tea, and couch is calling you. Happy holidays to you ALL, y'all.
